Frequently Asked Questions
At this time, we are keeping baby safe by requiring the exclusive use of pre-sealed and pre-sterilized lactation bags when storing breastmilk. To ensure quality and safety, a variety of brands have been approved for your convenience - feel free to reach out if you're ever unsure! The integrity of the bag should be in check with no rips or tears on it's exterior while making sure that frozen milk is still solid (no refreezing after initial thawing). Let us help keep your little one well nourished while upholding food regulations meant to give them only the best nutrition possible!
To accurately determine the volume of your frozen breastmilk, kindly follow these steps:
Obtain a suitable plastic bag and place your frozen breastmilk inside it.
Utilize a bathroom or kitchen scale to weigh the contents of the plastic bag.
Multiply the result from step 2 by 16.
As an example, if the weight of the breastmilk is 20 pounds, the calculation would be:
20lbs x16 = 320 ounces

Our facility is regularly inspected to ensure it meets their stringent regulations for processing breastmilk safely.
Breastmilk's enzyme lipase is essential for baby fat digestion, however some mothers may have a higher concentration of it that can change the taste and aroma. Fear not though - freeze-drying will retain breastmilk's' nutrients without reducing its quantity in lipase! The process also reduces activity levels, leading to an improved flavor and smell from thawed alternatives. Our clients have found great success with this method; many babies prefer bottles made from Freeze Dried Breast Milk due to these qualities – although individual preferences differ!
Make mealtime simple and nourishing with our convenient freeze-dried breastmilk powder! To ensure your little one gets all the health benefits from this nutrient dense milk, we recommend prepping each bottle carefully: use warm purified water to rehydrate the powder, shake or swirl for 1–2 minutes (or up to 5 minutes if there’s high-fat content), then check that all clumps are gone before feeding. With just a few extra steps you can guarantee your baby will get every precious drop of goodness in their meals!
When it comes to preserving expressed breastmilk, freezing is a widely accepted method according to guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and The Library of Congress. However, there are several factors impacting nutritional content over time—including freezer storage period, which can kill many of the breast milk's vital nutrients over time as well as the thawing process. To avoid this issue, freeze-drying has become the alternative gold standard for preserving breast milk! This safe & convenient technique involves initially freezing your milk before bypassing the thawing, process with sublimation, which directly removes water as a vapor – helping maintain the quality and taste!
Powdered breastmilk with our special food-grade extra thick mylar packets and moisture absorber ensures a long shelf life of up to five years - that's an indefinite period according to the USDA, FoodSafety.gov, & The Red Cross! For optimal quality when stored properly, it should be consumed or refrigerated within two hours after rehydrating. Leftover milk must be discarded after 24 hours in the fridge.
Freeze-drying has been the recommended alternative to deep freezing breastmilk for nearly seven decades and milk banks have utilized this process as early as 1980s. As a notable benefit, no additional chemicals or preservatives are added during the freeze drying procedure - exactly how nature intended! Made By Mum is proud to follow strict safety guidelines set by leading organizations like Alberta Health Services and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) with all of our food packaging meeting Government of Canada's regulations too!
Traveling with a little one made easier - Freeze-dried breastmilk can be carried through airport security without any worry, making travel with babies and toddlers effortless. No need for coolers either; the powder does not require refrigeration. But remember to use warm water for rehydration of the milk fat so it won't clump together! With freeze-dried breastmilk in tow, there's nothing standing in your way from enjoying stress-free journeys!
Freeze-drying, or lyophilization, is a powerful method for preserving breastmilk by removing the water content. This cutting-edge process takes place inside a specialized chamber that uses low temperatures and reduced pressure to convert ice crystals into vapor. Once removed from the milk, this evaporated moisture leaves behind all of its important nutritional components – without compromising any key characteristics! This careful freeze-dried process has made it possible for medical and food industries alike to benefit from its many advantages. So, if you're looking long term storage options while retaining as many beneficial aspects as possible: freeze-drying may just be your best bet when it comes to maintaining top quality nutrition in breastmilk.
